Allegiance and why: The Revolution. He is blue-blooded by birth, but the conservative views bred into him took a complete 180 after his family moved to Paris, where the true state of France was revealed to him. He is a fervent supporter of the principles of the revolution -- as long, of course, as his own family does not meet the kiss of Madame Guillotine.
Social Status and/or Occupation: The second (and probably disowned) son of an émigré French lord, who turned on his heritage and upbringing to become a revolutionary. His last stint in France was serving as a republican bleu in the Vendée civil war, but a serious injury has forced him to step down his involvement on that front. He has thus come to England for some R & R -- and, of course, to meet revolutionary contacts and further revolutionary activities.
Brief physical description of your character: Augustin is tall and, like most of the men in the family, possessed of dark, striking good looks. However, where Aimé is beautiful and knows it, Augustin is rather oblivious to these qualities of his appearance, and is made uncomfortable if and when they are commented upon. The years have rid him of all soft boyishness, adding instead a hardness to his jaw and a wary glint to his eyes. A recent gunshot injury and the subsequent fevers and aches have hollowed out the planes of his face, but his recovery is steady, albeit slow, and he is already regaining much of the weight and strength he had lost.
